Whale Watching
Seamen and explorers have written about whale sightings in Sri Lankan waters for thousands of years, but it was not until recently that experts such as Dr Charles Anderson, discovered that blue whales migrate along the coast to the Bay of Bengal in November-December and make the return journey in April. It is now thought that this is the best place in the world to see the largest mammal to have ever existed. Take a short half an hour trip from Kalpitiya on the north-west coast or Mirissa on the south coast, and spend the morning spotting these giants, as well as sperm whales, dolphins and turtles. This is something not to miss!
